A physician order is required for insertion of urethral catheters.
As outlined in the following nurse driven protocols, approved by the HMSL Medical Executive Committee, a nurse may manage the indwelling urethral catheter as appropriate according to the following processes, which are part of HM system policy PCPS164 Insertion, Care and Removal of a Urethral Catheter:
